How to Run Ads Without Driving Visitors Crazy?

One of the most common things seen on most of the websites are the Ads. Ads are of various types, it can be both subtle and extremely flashy. Some ads are so annoying in nature that the visitors either block them or leave the site. This is not good for both the visitor as well as the site owners. The idea is to have ads on your site which can help you to grow your business without annoying the visitors.

Some of the ad types that must be avoided are:

Pop-ups and Pop-unders
One of the most annoying ads are pop-ups. They open a new window in the browser. You have to close them before you can continue with your work. Pop-unders open behind the user's window. The visitors see them once they close their browser. It is both annoying as well as confusing for them.

People get so irritated with the pop-ups that they buy softwares for blocking pop-ups. In fact, most browsers do not include it as a built-in feature. Now the only users disturbed by pop-ups are the one's who do not upgrade their softwares. They are no more profitable, so it is better to avoid them.

Floating Ads and Takeovers
Pop-ups have now been replaced by the floating ads and websites 'takeovers'. They are created with the use of Flash and appear at the top of the page. These ads are even more irritating as they cover the content of the page. Also, they do not display a close button for some time and even a marginal miss diverts the user to the advertiser's page.

Interstitials
They are the most popular form of advertising which generate high revenue. In this type of ad, the ads covers the entire page. The user has to click through to reach the page they want. This is quite annoying for the users who are in search of some information. It is useful for sites that offer unique things such as a video or an exclusive story.

To make them less annoying, you can use Javascript to make the ads disappear automatically without the need to click through.

Animated Ads
Animated GIFs are another type of ads that annoy the users. They use many colors, flashy text, and sometimes even vibrate or move the text for attracting the user's attention. This makes users lose their concentration and as a result they often leave the site. Some animated ads even use sound which make it even more irritating.
